Further Information

Spiritual practices come and go. Some fall in, and then out of, favor as tastes change. However the practice of visualisation is one of those that has remained consistently popular over the decades.

Used for everything from manifestation work through to sports psychology and health therapy the use of the human imagination as a way of achieving and attaining has been been proven to be powerful and effective.

As we all know it is also an essential component in the psychic toolbox of nearly all practitioners of the magical arts.

A Founding Work

No book on the art and practice of visualization is more popularly or enthusiastically cited as the de facto work on the subject than Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain.

Originally published in 1978 this book went on to become endorsed by a number of celebrities and so quickly become an international best-seller with more than seven million copies sold.

In recognition of the 40th anniversary of its original publication New World Library have re-released it in a new revised edition and to a new generation of readers.

The book itself is comprised of five parts with each section focusing specifically upon the various stages of the learning process.

  1. Basics of Creative Visualization
  2. Using Creative Imagination
  3. Meditations and Affirmations
  4. Special Rechniques
  5. Living Creatively

Laced with references to the many deeper spiritual principles that visualisation relates to the author expands upon these basic ideas by taking a broader look at other related esoteric concepts; those such as meditation and chakra work.

Throughout its pages the author draws upon a central theme of New Age thought; which is that through the use of the human mind and using visualization as a technique, it is possible to tap into a higher level of consciousness and to draw into physical life benevolence and abundance.

In her closing paragraphs Gawain endorses this idea by stating that “Every Moment is a moment of creation, and each moment of creation contains infinite possibilities. What a wonderful game we are all playing, and what a magnificent art form…”

Our Review of Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain

This classic work of New Age spirituality was one of the first books on the subject of visualization that I read back in 1978. It has remained a favourite with me ever since.

Whilst more complete and technical works on visualization are available today Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain stands the test of time and does so by virtue of the writer’s warm and engaging writing style.

Some improvements have been made to the original text in this 40th anniversary edition and as a result I feel that it feels a more complete work than its original.

Whilst I also feel that this edition might have been even better had its contents been expanded upon with more advanced and contemporary visualization techniques this by no means suggests that it is out-dated or irrelevant. In many ways it is still as fresh today as it was back then.

So, if you are looking for a clear, simple and concise guide to the art and practice of visualization then you will find in Creative Visualization a rare example of a work that carries its own sense of history, authenticity and spiritual resonance.
