The story of Gerardo Ruben Sandoval Isaac’s fascination with entheogens begins at an early age.
At just twelve years Isaac started to receive strange nightly dreams in which he was outside alone and in a desert region searching for peyote — the hallucinogenic cactus that grows natively in the wilds of Northern Mexico and Southwestern USA.
The odd thing about these dreams was that at that time young Isaac did not actually know what peyote was nor that it is used as a hallucinogenic substance.
A Hallucinogenic Quest
In his book The God Molecule: My Journey to 5-Me0-DMT and the Spiritual Path to Divine Light Isaac shares his personal journey through many years of entheogen ingestion along with a detailed account of the highs and lows it brought him and the resulting spiritual odyssey that it initiated.
That journey began for him at the age of sixteen when, now completely lured by the calling of peyote, he ended up living in the desert. Here he built his own ranch-style home and eked-out a basic living in the harshest of physical conditions.
At the same time he integrated himself into the local peyote-eating culture and through it slowly started to unfold the hidden magic in and around the desert mountains of Real de Carorce.
From there the author moved on both geographically and hallucinogenically — this time to experience the effects of magic mushrooms, or Teonanacatl as the Aztecs call it in a new region.
After living and traveling around South America Isaac then spent some time in Nepal and India whilst training to be a doctor and then later on studying applied mycology.
Sadly, soon afterwards Isaac’s life fell completely apart as he suffered one personal tragedy after another. The darkness that this initiated in him led to depression and to a reliance on crack cocaine to help him cope.
The cure to his drug addiction manifested in the most unexpected form when he discovered that the excretions of the Sonoran Desert toad — an amphibian that produces a chemical known as 5-Me0-DMT and the only creature known to do so, dramatically returned his mental and emotional state to normal. This proved to be a pivotal turning point in his life.
Today Isaac continues to research into the healing effects of 5-Me0-DMT and the mysteries of a toad that he believes can initiate healing and spiritual advancement in us all.
Our Review of The God Molecule by Gerardo Ruben Sandoval Isaac
The journey that led the author to his calling in life is wonderfully described in this complex tale of dedication, struggle and finally redemption at the hands of a humble, but vitally significant, creature.
The God Molecule becomes even more compelling for the reader as along the way Isaac weaves his account of his entheogenic life into those of local tribal customs, shamanic knowledge and the sheer awesomeness of the environment that he is living in.
The book also includes a number of the author’s own personal photographs which also helps to bring his story to life.
The God Molecule is a thoroughly enjoyable book — a publication that charts the unfolding of one man’s intrepid research into a remarkable chemical, and then spiritual, transformative process.
Isaac’s work starts here and it may well prove to be one that has profound implications for the evolution of mankind.
