365 Ways to Develop Your Psychic Ability by Alexandra Chauran

Psychic power can manifest in your life at a moments notice. Sometimes, it gives no warning at all before it strikes and, more often than not, it departs as unexpectedly as it arrived.

Most people choose not to race after it, preferring to blame the experience on an otherworldly force. In truth, a psychic act is simply an undeveloped aspect of our natural human condition.

In her book, 365 Ways to Develop Your Psychic Ability: Simple Tools to Increase Your Intuition & Clairvoyance, established psychic Alexandra Chauran shares her knowledge of the psychic world and those who wish to develop their own latent abilities.

365 Ways to Develop Your Psychic Ability: Simple Tools to Increase Your Intuition & Clairvoyance is divided into ten parts. It covers topics ranging from becoming more observant of life experiences through to keeping a journal.

Initially, the book lays out the groundwork necessary to become more psychically aware. From increasing your awareness of dreams and omens through to divination, intuition, magickal symbols, psychic reading and professional ethics, Chauran explores many core elements of psychic work.

As the title suggests, this is a book that is designed to be worked through one lesson at a time—one day at a time.

To start off, day one establishes the most important element of any long term practice: keeping a personal journal.

Chauran also recommends that you create a statement of intent comprised of three specific goals. These should include one physical goal, a personal or emotional goal and a psychic one—all things that you would like to acheive by the end of your year long studies.

The first week continues by focussing on the deepening of personal awareness before she introduces the first psychic practices—those of grounding and visualization.

Chauran continues to emphasize the importance of psychic grounding at this stage by including a week’s worth of exercises just focussing upon the vital task of making that firm connection to the earth.

The author then highlights other core psychic tools, including centering, shielding, connecting to nature and understanding the language of symbolsm in your life.

At the end of the first month’s exercises, Chauran touches upon the need to keep a dream journal. This is a record of any nocturnal experiences that well-up via your psychic channels each night.

The second month begins with a look at psychic vampirism, fasting as a spiritual practice, grounding again and the use of incense. She includes a look at the astral plane before returning to more practical psychic work based upon psychometry and reading human auras.

Part two begins with a look at lucid dreaming, meditation, breathing and using dreams to answer questions. There then follows the first exploration of what might be termed a ‘spiritual doctrine’ with a brief look at Shamanism and spirit communication through dreams either with spirits of the deceased or as a result of sharing dreams with friends.

This section also includes how to induce trance states and more advanced dreamwork—both of which continue the theme of inner world work before the author returns to look at more advanced meditation techniques.

Day 66 marks the first exploration into the external, rather than purely internal, world of the psychic with a commentary on the Moon and the psychic effect of lunar phases.

The author then approaches the subject of the Tarot, automatic writing, channeling and dream catchers.

Part three begins with the author discussing psychic readings, the practical application of psychic powers. She examines subjects such as being aware of signs and omens, the effect of Deja Vu, bird omens, bad omens, the rather unfamiliar technique of divining via skipping stones and examining dead animals’ entrails.

Day 112 marks the start of part four. It features divination of various kinds. These include water and fire scrying, tea leaf reading, crystal ball gazing, pendulum dowsing, graphology, numerology, runes and palmistry. This is followed by nine days dedicated to learning the Tarot cards.

Part five focusses upon clairvoyance with a look at all of the major, and a few minor, ‘clair’ sciences. The author then explains the function of auras, out of body experiences and its associated practice of remote viewing, seeing ghosts and various types of psychometry.

The majority of natural psychics are, by nature, intuitive and sensitive individuals. These features are explored in part six of the book with a look at some of the external influences that you, as a psychic, should be aware of in your work.

This includes the negative influence of EMF (Electro Magnetic Fields), physical well being, emotional balance—including the most powerful of all human emotions: anxiety, grief, anger and sadness.

The author returns to take a closer look at the subject of symbols in part seven. She allocates a day to describe the esoteric meaning of the numbers 1 through to 9 and follows this with a look at the primary colors that you are most likely to encounter in your psychic work.

Continuing with the subject of symbolism, you are then introduced to the core symbollic content of each of the twenty-two cards that make up the Tarot’s Major Arcana.

A successful psychic reading of any type is dependent upon time and placement. In part eight, the author reveals the significance of observing the planets, daily cycles, planetary hours, etc. when establishing the most auspicious time for a reading. She also discusess the impact of orientation toward specific compass directions and traditional days of the year that celebrate unique energies.

Part nine offers advice on reading for others and the various aspects of psychic divination that can emerge, such as the need to banish the accumulative negativity of clients, the need to avoid personal projections into a client’s reading and your professional responsibilities as a psychic reader. Key amongst these is honesty and confidentiality.

As the year draws to a close, the final section of the book explores how you, as a psychic, should define yourself, present yourself to others, deal with negative press, safeguard your essential energies and perform psychic cleansing.

The book concludes with a short bibliography.

There is no index.

Our Review of 365 Ways to Develop Your Psychic Ability by Alexandra Chauran

I am not a big fan of ‘365’ type books. They rarely work for me. Either a book is great and you want to read it through in one sitting or it is poor and you have to wait until around January 15th to discover it is a turkey.

However, having said that, it does make perfect sense to section a book on psychic tuition into 365 separate elements so that you work on one of them each day for a year.

The problem here is though that this is not a workbook per se. It does not really follow any particular method for developing psychic powers and simply dips in and out of various psychic subjects in a somewhat haphazard fashion.

That is where I feel the book fails to live up to its potential. Had it been better constructed, it would have worked better as a developmental guide for fledgling psychics.

That said, the actual quality of the content is generally excellent. As with most books of this type, some subjects are not explored as fully as I would have liked but, in the main, the quality of the writing is high, the advice given is useful and the overall tone of the book is engaging.

Would I recommend it to someone looking to develop or explore their psychic skills for the first time?

Yes, I would. Despite its many short-comings (such as expecting the reader to learn how to read the Tarot in a week!), it is crammed up to the rafters with some great advice on how to approach the varying offshoots of psychic work.

This includes some heavy doses of practical work, for psychism does not always appear on demand and requires practice to perfect, but also includes necessary consideration of the role that you wish to play in becoming a professional psychic reader, including the need to develop a strong code of personal ethics.

365 Ways to Develop Your Psychic Ability is a well-considered guide to understanding the practical application of a diverse range of psychic skills.
