Lao-Tzu was an Ancient Chinese philosopher and writer who is the father of philosophical Taoism. He is specifically associated with his authorship of one of the most highly respected and influential metaphysical works of all time: The Tao Te Ching.
In his book, Practicing the Tao Te Ching, Taoist meditation teacher Solala Towler offers a very modern interpretation of the original Lao-Tzu text.
A New Examination
Practicing the Tao Te Ching essentially examines each one of the brief 81 chapters of Taoist philosophy in a practical and easy to digest form.
It is also, essentially, a work that bridges the Eastern and Western mindset and reveals the essence of a doctrine that has inspired countless generations over many millennia.
Towler follows a specific formula when unraveling the secrets of the work.
First, he offers an English translation of the original text. Then, he presents his own commentary on it before offering exercises and spiritual practices that the reader can apply in their daily lives.
Our Review of Practicing the Tao Te Ching by Solala Towler
I have not read such an inspiring, fascinating nor powerfully spiritual publication as Practicing Tao Te Ching by Solala Towler for such a long time.
I am not overly familiar with the original text but, to my mind, the author offers a commentary here that is worthy of the stature afforded to the original work.
As a manual of practical occultism, this has to be up there with the best works of its kind. The commentary peers in to what I found to be a new and exciting world of spiritual philosophy and the practical exercises really present the opportunity to make dramatic and lasting improvements to one’s life.
Practicing the Tao Te Ching by Solala Towler is a truly great and impressive work—one that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic form of effective spiritual guidance in their lives.
This will undoubtedly be one of those books that will remain by my bedside for sometime to come and which will be consulted on a regular basis for its deeply-revealing wisdom.
